THANK YOU EVERYONE!
Kiss Me Kate has closed it's curtain for the final time and I want to say thank you to everyone who help make the show a success. A wonderful cast and amazing orchestra; a dedicated crew behind the stage and a fantastic tech group up in the booths. My costumer and props people; and the front of house volunteers and ushers! Wonderful job everyone!

Kate was truly a wonderful experience for myself as a director and theatre-lover. The Barrow is a magical place and we are all lucky for the chance to step out on a first class stage and immerse ourselves in the drama, comedy, and tragedy that is theatre!

The blog will stay up - it is in archive of our journey from auditions to strike and will play host to many of the photo memories. If you have photos of the cast, show, crew - on and off stage - send them to tedsmith.patio@gmail.com and I'll put them up.

It's the last dance....last dance.....

Today's 2pm matinee is the last show for the Kiss Me Kate run....plenty of tickets available for that last minute trip into the theatre.

Right after the show, STRIKE.....assignments will be posted - we have to get this baby torn down and outta here today (except for the parts youth theatre is keeping). All help is needed - SCREWGUNS ARE NEEDED!

We will also be gathering props, costumes, set dressing pieces, etc back to the warehouse.

Don't forget to order your cast photos. The order forms are on the piano garage in the Green Room. Fill out the form, place it and your money/check in an envelope with your name on the outside.....

Garrett Kline is doing the Kate photo...he will deliver them to the theatre and then we'll get them out to everyone - usually within a couple of weeks we get them. Be sure to indicate if you want a Cast Only, Cast and Crew, Cast and Crew/Director....and he offers several sizes!

You have to place your Cast Photo order by the end of the show on Sunday.....

Thursday June 25
Brush-Up Rehearsal-7pm
Run entire show top to bottom and then tweak any spots.
No Costumes unless you want to wear yours for a quick change, etc.
No Make-Up
Full props, lighting, and set changes!

You've all worked very hard and opening night is upon us. My final thought is..."SMILE"!!!

You may think I am crazy but I spoke with some of our audience for final dress and it was unanimous - smiles would be nice from people! SMILE SMILE SMILE. The success of the show in selling it to the audience is your demeanor and personality. SMILE SMILE SMILE. You may have thought I was crazy this past week continually harping about the smiling but those who watched tonight all said the same thing...SMILE SMILE SMILE.

Please......for yourselves and your felllow cast members....pull a smile out of somewhere....own your character....own the show....own the experience.....

It's all on you .... the show is yours.

Sarah Creighton (Ensemble) is a freshman at Cranberry High School and is very excited about this show.

Her most recent stage appearance was in The Sound of Music at Applefest 2008 and she has also been in six youth theatre productions. Sarah is a member of her school Senior High Chorus, in which she also is an accompanist.

She would like to thank Ted, Pete, Christine, and all the countless other for all their hard work in making this show so great! Break A Leg!

Thank you all for a nice run last night- please "brush-up" on lines, blocking, and practice smiling in the mirror....ahem. Everyone is doing a good job but it's now game-time and we all have to raise our commitment levels above 100%...we moved some travellers and lights last night to accomodate the padua curtain so it may look different tonight - we will work on that....

Rehearsal tonight is in Costume - make-up not necessary.
All props are to be used - if you need a prop, talk to me before 7pm!
All cast stay backstage starting tonight....

Per Marc's comment last night, stay off the cell phones please. Texting backstage is a major pet peeve of mine - there should be no cell phones in the wings. Save the texting for the dressing rooms and intermission.....please.

Today's cast spotlight is...Jeri Bolton

Jeri Bolton (Ensemble) is thrilled to be doing another show at the Barrow.

She has been seen in Fiddler on the Roof, TITANIC, Sweet Charity, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, and most recently The Wizard of Oz.

Jeri also serves as an FCOA Board Member. She thanks Ted, Pete and Kristen and all the ensemble members who helped me learn those pesky dance moves.

Hair and Make-up for Cast

Hairstyles in the 40's were very feminine for women. Soft curls were common and hair was usually styled away from the face so as to show off a woman's facial features. Bright red lipstick for the lips was in vogue.

Sara Hoffman (Ensemble) is a junior at Franklin High School and is involved in Concert Band, Concert Choir, and Madrigal.

She has been in 14 youth productions and two school shows. She has most recently been seen as one of the nuns in the Sound of Music.

First of all, the super-duper-international-funtastic-spectacular drop has left Portland Oregon as of 4:47am today....

Today (Saturday) is the all important cue-to-cue tech...11am-1pm.
We set up the first scene, run the scene change to the next scene, skip to the next scene change, and so on.....very, very, very important we get the scene changes down pat so we have a smooth running show. Nothing is worse than poor tech ruining a great show!

Important for actors to be there (not only to get assigned roles) but also to know where moving curtains are, sets that drop in fall, and props need to go (esp. with our backstage corridor - Brett Michaels at the Tonys anyone?!?!?!?!)

Today's cast spotlight is...Julie Boocks.

Julie A. Boocks (Ensemble) would like to thank God for letting her discover the fun-loving talent for entertaining and being able to make others smile.

She performed in her first show in her entire 48 years and really found herself as General Cartwright in Guys and Dolls. She is now back, three years later, for her second go at the big stage!

She thanks her family and friends for always encouraging her and not being negative about her dreams. “This may seem like a small role in hometown play, but my heart pounds fast and my eyes shine with every step on stage. It’s as if I am a lead on Broadway. I will always live my life with lots of love and tons of laughter. Enjoy the show.”

Today's cast spotlight is...Stephen Teig

Stephen Teig (Gangster #1) has been active at the Barrow both on stage and behind the scenes, and currently serves as chairman of the FCOA board.

Favorite roles include Valentine in Arcadia, Andrews in TITANIC, Man 2 in I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change and Freddy/Phillip in Noises Off. Most recently he appeared as Sparky in Forever Plaid.

When he's not at the theatre, Stephen spends his time running his family's business, Anderson Furniture. He is glad to add Gangster #1 to his repertoire.

Joe Perrotti (Hortensio) is a soon-to-be senior at Oil City High School and is involved with just about everything music-related in school.

He participates in Concert and Marching Band, Acappela Choir, Rhapsody in Blues ensemble, and Men’s Quartet. His favorite roles include Marston in And Then There Were None, Biff Baker in 1940s Radio Hour, Nikko/The Guard in The Wizard of Oz (all at the Barrow), and Mr. Applegate in the OCHS production of Damn Yankees.

Joe would like to thank Ted, the cast and crew for all their hard work; Mr. Greene for switiching the music parts in “TDOH”; and his parents for transportation and putting up with his crazy schedule.

Today's cast spotlight is Carissa McClintock

Carissa McClintock (Hattie/Ensemble) is really excited to return to the stage, especially at the Barrow, after being away for a year. She has appeared in many productions in the area. Her most recent roles include Dolly Levi in Hello Dolly and Helene in Sweet Charity.

Carissa just finished her freshman year at Westminster College where she majors in elementary education. She is a member of the women’s choir and gospel choir on campus. This summer she is serving as a member of Americorps at the Oil City Salvation Army.

Carissa would like to thank Ted, Pete, Christine, the rest of the crew and the cast for all their hard work. Special thanks go out to her mom for doing the show with her and to Babs for loving her name so much.

Today's Cast Spotlight is Jordan Rembold.

Jordan Rembold (Gangster #2) is surprisingly appearing in his first show at the Barrow. He is very excited about his role as gangster #2.

You have probably seen Jordan in any of Rocky Grove High School musical productions in the last five years. Some previous roles include, The Dentist in Little Shop of Horrors, Harry Witherspoon in Lucky Stiff, and The Lion in The Wiz.

He would like to thank his cousin Jillian for her support as well as Becca for always encouraging him. Also he would like to thanks his Director, Ted, for making this an awesome experience.

Today's cast spotlight is....The Ritsig Twins-Aaron and Andrew.

Aaron Ritsig (Stagehand/Nathaniel) has been doing shows at the Barrow since he was 9 and loving every minute of it. After being on stage for Wizard of Oz and To Kill a Mockingbird, as well as behind the scenes for Forever Plaid, Aaron is thrilled to be a part of Kiss Me Kate. When not doing shows, Aaron loves shooting, reading, irritating our U.S. senators, and writing action novels. He plans to open a restaurant in the future. “Kiss Me Kate has been another great adventure; thanks to everyone!"

Andrew Ritsig (Stagehand/Phillip) is thrilled to be in another show at the Barrow. He was most recently seen in To Kill a Mockingbird, Wizard of Oz as a crow, and he was part of the light crew for Forever Plaid. When not at the theater, Andrew enjoys cooking, writing, and dreaming up novels. He’s excited about taking a freshman digital photography class in September and whatever comes up next at the Barrow. He wants to thank everyone involved for making his Kiss Me Kate experience so amazing!

Today's cast spotlight is Katie Kirby-Rogers

Katie Kirby-Rogers (Ensemble) is excited to be celebrating her 15th year of performing on the Barrow Stage. Her resume includes many great shows in various theatres throughout the area. Some of her favorite roles include the "Narrator" in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, "Miss Sarah Brown" in Guys and Dolls, "Violet" in It's a Wonderful Life, and "Alice" in Alice in Wonderland.

She also has a long list of small parts and chorus roles in shows such as The Sound of Music, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, TITANIC, Cinderella, Fiddler on the Roof, The King and I and Oliver. She also appeared in the 2004 production of The Vagina Monologues at Stambaugh Auditorium in Youngstown, OH.

She loves the feeling of being on the Barrow stage and performing with her friends from the Franklin area. She recently made her directorial debut in a children's musical called Angels Aware. She is currently an Independent Beauty Consultant for Mary Kay and lives with her husband Joe who works for PennDOT and their cat, Gizmo.

She wishes to thank Ted and Pete for the opportunity to appear in another show and Mary Ann and Corky for always believing in her from the very beginning. "I feel like I've known you two my whole life! Also, thanks to the cast for making this show fun for me. I can't wait for the next one!"

Today's Cast Spotlight is Liz Deemer.

Liz Deemer is appearing in her first adult show at the Barrow after along run of the first 10 Youth Theatre shows. For her senior project she had the pleasure of helping Martha Heise direct the second run through of Treasure Island and Alice in Wonderland, 7 years after performing in it herself.

She most recently performed a short one act of Alice in Wonderland as the Madhatter, Red Queen, Lory Bird, and The Dutchess. Alice is her most memorable show and after three times participating in it, she is convinced somehow she’ll end up finding auditions somewhere for her fourth run of it.

Currently she has just finished her freshman year at Allegheny College inMeadville, PA where she is a Psychology major and French minor. She isalso a part of the varsity football/basketball cheerleading squad and iscontinuing her love of theatre through Student Expiremental Theater(S.E.T) at the college.

She would like to give thanks to Martha for teaching her everything sheknows, and Ted for giving her this experience.

John-Dominc Heim (Ralph/Haberdasher) says this year has been quite the new experience for me, what with starting college and a new job. It is nice to know that not everything changes though.

The Barrow, and many of my friends are still here and I'm enjoying almost every moment of it. I would like to thank all my friends and family for the support they give me, especially my parents.

Today's Cast Spotlight is....the Hennessy Family.

Molly Hennessy (Ensemble) is appearing in her third show at the Barrow. Molly was recently part of the cast of The Wizard of Oz and The Sound of Music. Molly is an active vocalist having studied voice with Judy Hughs and Dennis Daugherty for the past six years. Molly has also studied Hip Hop and Jazz at Dance and Gym USA. Molly is a student at the Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School and plans to work and recreate with her friends this summer. "The whole family is in this one."

Peg Hennessy (Ensemble) was last seen as Miss Maudie in the Barrow Civic Theatre's production of To Kill a Mockingbird. Last year, Peg played the role of Auntie Em in the Wizard of Oz. Peg has played a variety of other roles as a student in Point Park University's Theater Arts program at the Pittsburgh Playhouse and has performed at the Pasadena City Playhouse in Pasadena, CA. She has been Assistant Business Manager for the Goodman Theatre in Chicago, IL. Since earning her Master's degree in Counseling, Peg has directed a number of drama therapy programs in the area. Peg would like to thank her family and friends for supporting Community Theater and wish the Barrow Civic Theatre another huge success.

Bill Hennessy (Innkeeper) is making his debut at the BCT. He would like to thank his wife, Peg and daughter, Molly who believed he really could sing and also to the Barrow for giving him this chance.

Today's cast spotlight is Jaclyn Fike

Jaclyn Fike (Dance Captain/Ensemble) is excited to play the role of dance captain in this show and has had a lot of fun during the process. Her recent FCOA roles include the "Jitterbug" in Wizard of Oz, Lead Bottle Dancer in Fiddler on the Roof and "Frenchie" in Sweet Charity.

Jaclyn works as a Data Entry Youth Coordinator for the WIA program for Venango Training and Development Center, as well as teaching the little ones at Studio 22.

Cooper Oliver (Pops/Gregory) returns to the stage with joy to work with Ted Smith as director.

Having been schooled by Ted in The Hollow in his favorite role as Inspector Calhoun, he looks forward to learning more about stagecraft and learning from the best (There! That should get me cast in Ted’s next show).

“Generally, every experience I have had in this theater as actor, stage crew, stage manager, and producer has been a blast. Liesl Bittner is appearing in her eighth FCOA show. Her most recent shows have been The Wizard of Oz and the Sound of Music.

Today's cast spotlight is...Tish McClintock

After 12 years of being a very proud stage mother to Carissa, Tish is very excited to be making her second appearance in a Barrow show directed by Ted Smith. She was thrilled to play a part in Ted's vision fo the Emerald City in The Wizard of Oz.

Tish has worked in the office of Anderson Metal Industries for the past six years. Her primary job, however, has been being a mother, raising her three sons and her daughter for the last 26 years.

She would like to thank all of her family and friends for their constant understanding and support, especially while juggling this very busy schedule. Thank you to the producers, directors, choreographers, musicians, costumers, and all the cast and crew for all their hard work, and the fun and laughs too!

Special thanks to Ted and Carissa for "encouraging" her to audition in the first place. Love you guys! Lets "break a leg!"

Pickups, flatbeds, box trucks...anything we can get to haul stuff in.

Today's Cast Spotlight is Nick Mitchell.

Nick Mitchell (General Howell) is excited to make his Barrow debut in Kiss Me Kate.

Some traveled theatre-goers may recognize Nick from Meadville’s Academy Theatre where he recently played Lumiere in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast and Dan Kaffee in A Few Good Men, among several other roles.

Nick has toured the Greater Pittsburgh area the past two years with CLO’s Gallery of Heroes production of The Incredibly Innovative Innovators of Pittsburgh. Nick is the Associate Producer of Empty Jug Productions. One of EJP’s current projects is a Natural Gas Safety musical for Columbia Gas entitled “I Love Gas,” in which Nick originated the role of the malodorous Captain Mercaptan (because who doesn’t like a stinky pirate?).

Nick studied music theatre at Oklahoma City Univeristy, where he had the privilege of studying with Florence Birdwell.

General Note: Based on last night's rehearsal, you can really see the issues which crop up when people are not there. I am asking all cast members to triple check the schedule and their scripts....we all have to commit to be at rehearsal as much as we can this week. Starting after Memorial Day, you will be expected to be at rehearsal regardless of how many lines or appearances you have in the scenes. Only pre-determined conflicts will be honored-once you committed to the show, you have had the responsibility to try to place this show first. I know this is the busy season of concerts, recitals, etc but that is coming to end quickly.

So that's the big heavy director speech - now back to our regularly scheduled madness.....

Today's cast spotlight is Marc Holland...

Marc Ellis Holland (Paul/Gremio) is super-excited to be performing onstage and not behind the scenes as the mean choreographer.

Marc has Broadway credits, including having played Tumblebrutus in CATS, as well as national tour experience. One of his favorite roles was a tap-dancing horse at Radio City for 101 Dalmatians. Marc appeared on the BCT stage as Big Daddy in the 2007 production of Sweet Charity.

He has choreographed several shows for the BCT including Sweet Charity, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, and Fiddler on the Roof. He has also provided choreography direction for Rocky Grove and Oil City High Schools, the Academy Theatre, Meadville Community Theatre, the annual Dancing For Life Red Cross Benefit, and more.

He is the Director of Dance at Studio 22 Performing Arts Academy in Franklin. He also is a faculty member, teaching dance in the theatre department at Clarion University. He has also been on the faculty for the Cecchetti Council of America Summer Institute and is Cecchetti-certified.

He gives many thanks to Pete, Kristen, and the man that makes me laugh-Teddy.

Bret Sloan is delighted to be in another show at the Barrow. He recently appeared as Frankie in Forever Plaid & Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz.

Bret graduated from Clarion University with a BFA in Theatre. Some memorable roles include the Emcee in Cabaret, Judas/John the Baptist in Godspell, Smee in Peter Pan, Autolycus in The Winter's Tale & Thurio in Two Gentlemen of Verona: The Musical.

Bret works for State Farm Insurance in Grove City. He would like to thank his family & friends for their support, and many thanks to his castmates for making each show so great.

Today's cast spotlight is....Christian Marshall

Christian Marshall (Harry Trevor/Baptista) is thrilled to be returning to the BCT stage after having most recently been seen in Noises Off as Gary/Roger and in 1940s Radio Hour as Neil Tilden.

Kiss Me Kate is Christian's first "big summer musical" since Grease where he portrayed Vince Fontaine. Other favorite roles include Elwood Dowd in Harvey, Lt. Kaffee in A Few Good Men, Paul in Barefoot in the Park, Lank Hawkins in Crazy for You and "Big Daddy" in A Night at Big Daddy's (thanks Pete). There is also a long list of various roles and chorus parts in Oklahoma, 42nd Street, Jesus Christ Superstar and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Christian is currently employed with Venango County Court Supervision Services as their Aftercare Juvenile Probation Officer. When not on stage he is rediscovering his love/hate relationship with marathon running and golf.

He gives a huge thanks to family, friends, coworkers, cast and production crew for their tireless work and endless support.

Today's cast spotlight is Terri Gilmore

Terri Gilmore (Lois Lane/Bianca) is ecstatic to have been given the opportunity to perform in such a fantastic show and work with such wonderful people. She is delighted to be returning to the Barrow where she was last seen as “Charity” in Sweet Charity and “Adelaide” in Guys and Dolls.

More recent roles include “Lucy” in Jekyll and Hyde, “Babette” in Beauty and the Beast, “Blanche DuBois” in A Streetcar Named Desire, and “Lina Lamont” in Singin In The Rain.

Terri resides in Meadville and has worked in Franklin for over seven years. She is a Doctor of Audiology at Crawford & Fitch – Ear, Nose and Throat.

Terri wants to thank her family, friends, and patients for consistently coming out and showing their support. She would especially like to thank the patrons of the Barrow-Civic Theatre for always giving her such a warm welcome when she takes the stage.

Jacob Krupitzer (Bill Calhoun/Lucentio) is an upcoming sophomore at Clarion University where he plans to major in English with a possible minor in theater. Off stage he enjoys music with hobbies like piano and guitar.

Recent roles include Jinx in Forever Plaid, Tin Man in The Wizard of Oz, Rolf in Sound of Music, and Motel in Fiddler on the Roof.

The location for Mon and Tue dance rehearsals shall be the LITTLE THEATRE and NOT Studio 22. We shall hold Cantiamo and Pavane rehearsals up front in the Little Theatre.

Tonight's cast spotlight is Jamie Agnello:

Jamie Agnello (Lilli Vanessi/Katherine) is very excited to be a part of another show here at the BCT. She recently appeared as Mayella Ewell in To Kill a Mockingbird and Almira Gultch/Wicked Witch in The Wizard of Oz. Some of her favorite roles include Annie Oakley in Annie Get Your Gun, Reno Sweeney in Anything Goes, and Anna/Nell in Everett Beekin.

Jamie graduated from Hobart and William Smith colleges in 2007 with a BA in English (Creative Writing). She worked as a travel writer/waitress in Boston for a year, gallivanted around Southeast Asia this past winter, and will be heading off to Sarah Lawrence College in August to earn her Master of Fine Arts in Poetry.

She would like to thank Ted and Pete for believing in her, along with Kristen, her fellow cast members, the orchestra, and the crew for all their hard work and dedication. “I’ve had an absolute blast working on this show and will miss my BCT family so much!”

We're going to work from beginning of number....will be doing Dance and Blocking movement....this number will be controlled, choreographed chaos!

All Ensemble
Do not need Fred, General, Gangsters (unless you want to come for giggles)

Lilli, Bill, Lois- if possible - to work your entrances and interactions with cast....

Dress in comfortable clothing, wear shoes you can move in.....we will be ACTIVE!
